Last Saturday (Nov 2nd), Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery, the eponymous Beijing-based gallery dealing exclusively in works on paper and founded 4 years ago, opened a new space in Hangzhou. The Hangzhou branch is headed by Olivier Hervet, and will expand the gallery’s remit to include works in all media by young Chinese artists. The first six exhibitions will be dedicated to graduates of the China Academy of Fine Art in Hangzhou.
For Hervet, “The future of the Chinese art market’s development lies in provincial cities where mainland collectors live”. The first exhibition in Hangzhou is “Song Ren: 1982-2012” – oil paintings on canvas and works on paper from the 1980’s to the present.
