The Westbund Art and Design Fair will open on September 25 on the Xuhui Waterfront in Shanghai. The venue, once the Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Factory, has now been transformed into the Westbund Art Center.
The Westbund Art and Design Fair is co-organized by the Shanghai West Bund Development Group Co. together with Zhou Tiehai, a renowned Chinese artist (and previously the artistic director of the Minsheng Museum in Shanghai). The fair purports to be the first large-scale international fair in China integrating art and design. With the opening of the Long Museum (Puxi branch) and the Yuz Museum, this new fair makes for a new addition to the “West Bund Cultural Corridor”.
The fair will have a “5+25” formula, with an art fair lasting five days and a special exhibition taking place over 25 days. The director of the fair, Zhou Tiehai, hopes to “bring art and design into everyday life” as the core idea of the fair. Over 20 Chinese and international galleries have been invited to participate, including Hauser & Wirth, Sean Kelly, White Cube, Ota Fine Arts, PACE, SCAI the Bathhouse, ShanghART, among others, along with 10 design institutions. During the fair, there will also be an international summit forum focusing on such topics as art and design creation, curatorship and museum operation, as well as art collecting.
