Art Basel Hong Kong has just announced news for the 2014 line-up—the fair’s second edition in Asia.
The gallery tally is again 245, which includes 19 new names. These show a Germanic bias and include Galerie Peter Kilchmann, Michael Hoppen Gallery, Susanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects and Meyer Riegger. 24 of the exhibitors have spaces in Hong Kong. The Insights, Discoveries and Encounters sections will again deliver curatorial projects, emerging art and museum-level works, respectively.
2014 will see a new element added to the fair: film. This will be led by the new media artist, curator and producer Li Zhenhua. In 2002, Li managed the first new media art festival in Beijing, MAAP; he also founded , and advised on the exhibition “Digital Revolution”, to be held at the Barbican Centre, London this year. The Film section at Art Basel will be a three-day program of screenings held at the agnès b-sponsored Cinema at Hong Kong Arts Centre (Li Zhenhua is also a contributor at Randian).
